The Power of Showing Up: Heather Salvatore Gruccio on Leadership, Balance & Impact

At the heart of leadership is the ability to inspire, uplift, and drive meaningful change—both in business and beyond. As we prepare for the 2025 Women of Impact Summit, hosted by Delivering Good, we’re spotlighting dynamic leaders who exemplify what it means to lead with purpose. In this conversation, Heather Salvatore Gruccio, SVP and GMM at Ann Taylor, shares her journey through fashion, retail, and life—and offers powerful lessons in resilience, authenticity, and service.

Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your journey as a leader?

Every leader has a defining moment—an experience that shifts how you lead, not just for yourself, but for others. For me, the moment came when I was navigating the return to work after I had my second son.

I vividly remember a conversation with my mentor—an equally driven, career-focused woman and mother. She knew I was trying to balance it all, and she offered something I didn’t even realize I needed: permission. Permission to be both a strong leader and a devoted mom. It was okay to make space for my family with the same intentionality I brought to my work.

That conversation reshaped my leadership philosophy. Today, I lead with empathy, presence, and a belief that we can show up fully in every role we hold—even though it may not always look perfect. And that is okay.

What inspired you to pursue the work you do today?

I am a product person to my core. I never turn it off—it’s just how I’m wired. I love fashion, I love retail, and I love solving problems. Merchandising is the beautiful blend of art and science—the balance of creativity, analytics, and customer insights. I love understanding the “why” behind the business. The strategy. The storytelling. The constant curiosity.

While it started with a passion for product, it has evolved into something much bigger. Today, I’m inspired by the iconic brand that I get to help shape at Ann Taylor, the incredible teams I work alongside, and the loyal customer we serve. They’re what fuel me every day.

What advice would you give to the next generation of women leaders?

Lead with clarity and confidence. Assume good intent. And most importantly—truly listen. Don’t just say you’re open—be open. Lead authentically. The more you show up as yourself, the more space you create for others to do the same. That is where real trust begins.

And remember—balance matters. Yes, you can have it all—but you might need to redefine what “all” looks like. It’s about prioritizing, delegating, and giving yourself grace.

Why do you think organizations like Delivering Good are so important?

I feel incredibly fortunate to do what I do every day, and it’s important to me to never lose sight of that. Delivering Good is about lifting others up, extending kindness, and helping people through challenging times.

I’m proud to be part of a company that believes in paying it forward—and I believe, as leaders, we have a responsibility to do just that. It’s humbling. It’s rewarding. And it’s a powerful reminder of how lucky we are—and how important it is to give back.

What excites you most about participating in this year’s Women of Impact Summit?

I’m incredibly excited to hear from other remarkable women, to share stories, learn from one another, and walk away even more inspired. There’s real power in connection and community. I’m honored to be a part of it.
