The Power of Perspective: A Conversation with Jill Ehnes

Ahead of the 2026 Women of Impact Summit, we got the opportunity to sit down with Jill Ehnes, President of Delta Faucet Company and North America Plumbing. In this interview, Jill shared a pivotal moment in her career, what she finds meaningful in her work and leadership, and advice on finding a path to impact.

Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your journey as a leader?

Early in my life and career, others saw potential in me before I fully saw it in myself, from my grandfather pushing me to think bigger, to leaders who put me in stretch roles before I felt ready. Each of those moments required me to choose challenge over comfort. That’s how I learned leadership isn’t about being fearless - it’s about growing through discomfort and getting better every single day.

One specific example that stands out to me was during my first week in an executive leadership role at Delta Faucet Company. I got called into a meeting with key senior leaders where we were debating a strategic decision.  I didn’t say much in the meeting.  I just listened and observed the debate to learn.  I didn’t feel I could contribute given my tenure in role and depth of understanding of the topic being discussed.  After the meeting my CEO stopped by my office.  He started by asking, “How did you think you did in that meeting?”. I knew at that moment I did not meet his expectations. I told him I did not say much because I was still learning.  He responded by saying, “I expect you to do your homework and get up to speed so that you can ask questions and share your point of view in those kinds of meetings.”  He got up and as he walked out of my office he said, “the honeymoon is over Jill. It’s time to be a leader.”  That did not feel good.  Honestly, it stung.  I didn’t want to disappoint him. I didn’t want to create a negative impression about my ability to lead at the executive level.  But after the sting wore off, I used that moment to think, act and lead differently.  I used it to motivate me.  It inspired me to learn more about all areas of the business, even those beyond the traditional scope of my role. That feedback influenced how I view leadership. Nothing good comes from staying in your comfort zone – growth happens during heat assignments and in those moments when you are least comfortable.

How do you define impact in your work and leadership?

Well, I am a competitive person – and love to win, so of course, impact includes setting goals and achieving results. But what I’ve learned over time is that, at least for me, the most meaningful impact isn’t a metric or a financial outcome – it’s the people and culture you build along the way. I get a lot of joy from building high performing teams and helping others grow in their careers. I view my most important role as building employees confidence and expanding their capabilities. Giving people meaningful work, setting high standards and holding them accountable while also ensuring they know I have their back creates an environment where success and innovation can thrive.

What advice would you give to someone working to find their path to impact?

The day you stop pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone is the day you stop growing. Say yes to challenges before you feel ready, and don’t put pressure on yourself to have it all figured out all at once. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, lean on them for confidence when you need it, and remember - you can have it all, just not all at once. Careers are built in seasons, and each season teaches you something valuable.
