Leading with Purpose: Sabeen Mian of Performance Beauty Group on Creativity, Commerce, and Empowering Others

April 10, 2025 |
Welcome to the next installment of our Leading with Purpose series, where we spotlight inspiring leaders who are shaping the future with their values-driven leadership. In each post, we dive into the pivotal moments, insights, and advice that have defined their careers. This week, we’re excited to feature Sabeen Mian, President of the Lash Division at Performance Beauty Group, whose journey has been fueled by a passion for creativity, commerce, and empowering others.
Can you share a pivotal moment in your career that shaped your journey as a leader?
A defining moment was launching a women’s personal care brand for IPSY during the pandemic in 2020. I started as a team of one, working with external partners while building the concept—and the team—entirely remotely. It was a crash course in agility, creativity, and the power of culture from day one. I learned that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about setting a clear vision, staying anchored in your “why,” and empowering others as the mission grows. That experience shaped my approach to leadership: roll up your sleeves, know the details cold, and obsess over execution—while keeping the 10,000-foot view to help teams prioritize and simplify.
What inspired you to pursue the work you do today?
I’ve always been energized by the intersection of creativity and commerce—and drawn to the emotional power of brands, especially in beauty and wellness. Early in my career, I was in investment banking, but I found myself gravitating toward roles where I could shape products and experiences that genuinely delight customers. What inspires me most today is building brands that serve real communities, especially women, and creating companies where diverse talent can grow, thrive, and lead.
What advice would you give to the next generation of women leaders?
Invest in your people. Your legacy will be defined not by what you built, but by how you made people feel.
How do you define impact in your work and leadership?
To me, impact is threefold:
-
Business: Did we build something meaningful and sustainable?
-
People: Have I helped someone, or people, grow in their career?
-
Community: Are we leaving customers, partners, and the world better than we found it?
If the answer is “yes” to all three—then I know I’m doing my job.
